Hengrove Evening Skate

A few of us had a strong urge to skate this evening, so as darkness set in around 6:30pm, we decided we’d head to Hengrove, Bristol, for a skate in the floodlit skatepark. Ben and Yacob turned up at mine around 7:30pm and we headed for Bristol in my car, arriving at Hengrove to find it completely packed full of BMXs, which actually turned out to be worse than the packs of kids on scooters in our session at Bath on Saturday.

I’d like to point out how inconsiderate and dangerous some of the riders on bikes were – on several occasions I’d come out of a trick and look up to see a BMXer drop in and head straight for me, regardless of the fact that I was clearly coming his way. Most of the time it seemed they simply expected all the other users of the skatepark to move out of the way. Anyway, enough of a rant, and I’d like to point out that it was only a few individuals causing these problems.

Team happy
Regardless of almost being crashed into with every attempt at a trick, we had a skate on the drop ledge and fun box setup, hitting some solid grinds and egging each other on to try new and progressively more difficult tricks. Ben landed some solid fs royales 270 out, followed by a few topsouls and topside acids, whilst Yacob pulled some steezed switch topsouls and truespin miszous out of the bag. I played with fs savannahs, squeezing in a 270 out, and a pretty tidy ao topside mistral.
The camera came out and we captured a few shots, and then cruised the rest of the park before heading home just before 10pm, the floodlight cut-off time.

All in all an average session, which would’ve been infinitely better had the skatepark been empty, but c’est la vie.
